What is DNA?
DNA or Deoxyribonucleic acid is the chemical makeup that defines the uniqueness of every living organism. It is the blueprint of the nucleic structure of every cell. Each cell has its own unique DNA code and has become synonymous with proof of authenticity and scientific accuracy.
How does the kit work?
The DNA Print-Kit contains a patented clear ink embedded with specific sequenced DNA strands that are only known to our laboratories. (These strands of DNA are derived from a calf’s thymus.) This technically advanced system allows you to mark your personal property to protect against forgery or counterfeiting.
Your own unique thumbprint, when placed on the kit’s DNA treated pad, gives you two invisible unique methods of indisputable identifications that would be accepted in any court.
How long will the UV markings last?
Marks placed on objects will last indefinitely. The UV ink is of very high quality, and is now in its seventh generation. The inventor in his lab tested the first marking by the Print-Kit eight years ago, and it is still there today.
Is there any recommended way of marking your property?
We suggest placing your fingerprint and personal code in discreet places. For example, take out the battery of your laptop and place your fingerprint/code there, or mark your Great Aunt Charlotte’s vase under its base. These covert markings will enhance the longevity of the UV in the security ink.
Don’t forget too that it is important to record all markings/codes/locations in the inventory ledger included in the Kit.
Will the product adhere to any surface?
DNA Print-Kit markings will adhere to most solid surfaces – paper, wood, pottery, metal. However, we recommend the use of the DNA/ UV ink in an acrylic base for use on highly polished metal surfaces and glass. This acrylic formula will keep the ink from being rubbed away on these surfaces during cleaning.
Will the ink deface my property?
No, absolutely not – this is a highly sophisticated and non-toxic composition. Extensive forensic testing of the UV ink shows that it will not damage or degrade the surface of marked items.
Why would I need the DNA Print-Kit?
We live in times where identity theft, forgery, counterfeiting, burglary and diversion have become more rampant. If your possessions are lost or stolen and recovered, your items can be scanned with a UV detector that is included in the kit. This detector will make your DNA mark visible, which will allow you to prove ownership.
Don’t forget that it also is important to mark items with both your fingerprint and your personal code. Every mark that is made should also be recorded in the ledger that is included in the Kit.
If I am burglarized, how would I proceed in proving ownership of assets?
When you open your DNA Print-Kit, you will find an inventory ledger. This ledger will be crucial in the recovery of your assets. As you walk through your home or office marking your property, conjunctly record each item and location of marking into the property ledger. If you are burglarized, you can then present a copy of the ledger to law enforcement as proof that you did in fact mark your objects, and that you have a way of proving that.
Is the DNA in the ink my own DNA?
No. The ink in the Print-Kit is embedded with a manufacturer’s selected sequence of DNA that is derived from a calf’s thymus. Each sequence used will be unique to that particular batch of ink.
Could I special order a batch of ink with my own DNA in it?
It is possible to use your own DNA by submitting a sample of saliva or a hair follicle in a kit provided by our laboratory. When the sample is received and uniquely sequenced, it is embedded in the ink batch. There is a one-time fee to manufacture your own DNA sequence. Please contact our offices for more information.
Is the DNA/UV ink available in any other form besides the kit?
Yes. We are willing to work with you to create an ink process that best suits your personal or corporate needs.
Is it possible for the UV marks to be washed away either naturally or by a cleaning process?
DNA Print-Kit markings cannot be washed off by natural wear. If someone were to locate the markings on an object, he or she would need to completely obliterate the mark to remove all traces of the UV ink by using harsh chemicals. (However, if the ink markings have been removed, traces of the DNA sequence will still remain on the object.) Since marks on glass and highly polished metals can be cleaned with harsh chemicals, we offer our acrylic formula for use on these particular surfaces.
Why is the DNA in the ink an important factor?
The DNA is the final layer of protection for your assets. The need for this precision becomes evident when recovering a valuable object, such as a painting or a sculpture. The question of proving ownership could become an issue far greater than matching someone’s fingerprint to one on the back of an object. The DNA sequence in the ink can be lifted off the object, and the sequence verified through any forensic lab. DNA evidence is indisputable and may well be the final link in reclaiming your valuable object.
Why can I sometimes see the markings under the light?
Because the DNA Print-Kit is a UV product, any exposure that the ink has to sunlight might cause the ink markings to become slightly visible to the naked eye. Therefore, it is important to place markings on the underside of items.
Will exposure to light cause the product to fade?
Yes. Sunlight is the only factor that will have a “fading” effect on the ink. This is due to the fact that the ink is of an ultraviolet composition. Again, we recommend that markings are placed on the underside of products, where exposure to light is not an issue.
Is the kit safe to use?
The DNA Print-Kit contains no toxins or dyes that present any health risks, and the product may be applied to most surfaces.
How would I test the DNA for authenticity?
If the DNA ink needs to be verified, it would only require a small sample scraped from the marked surface. The sample should be placed in a small plastic bag and sent to the laboratory for examination, which will compare the sequence it has on record. There is a one-time fee for this service and certifies results will be sent directly to you.
